A dental emergency almost never happens at a convenient hour. It happens the morning of a flight, the afternoon before a presentation, or at 6:00am when a filling that has been quietly failing for a year finally gives out. The point of holding time open every day is that you don’t have to talk your way into the schedule while your jaw is throbbing.
Our North Austin office sits directly on the Research Blvd. frontage road, so it is a short hop off 183 whether you’re coming south from Cedar Park and Round Rock or north from Mopac and the Arboretum. Parking is free and directly in front of the building — which matters more than it sounds like it should when you are trying to get somewhere quickly and in pain.
One more practical note: North Austin is open on Fridays, and our Georgetown office is not. If it’s a Friday, Research Blvd. is the number to call.
First aid that buys you time on the way in
Toothache
Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently around the tooth to rule out something lodged there. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories help. Don’t hold aspirin against the gum — it burns the tissue.
Knocked-out tooth
Handle it by the crown only. Rinse gently, reseat it in the socket if you can, or keep it in milk. Time is the variable that matters most here.
Broken or cracked tooth
Rinse with warm water, apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek to keep swelling down, and save any pieces you find.
Lost crown or filling
Keep the crown. Clove oil on the exposed tooth helps with sensitivity. Avoid chewing on that side and don’t try to glue it back with household adhesive.
Swelling or abscess
Call right away. Swelling means infection, and infection in the jaw does not resolve on its own. If it is spreading toward the eye or throat, or affecting breathing or swallowing, go to the ER.
Broken braces or appliance
Cover a poking wire with orthodontic wax and call. Don’t cut the wire — you risk swallowing the piece.

We get you out of pain before we do anything else. That usually means an exam of the area, a digital X-ray, and local anesthetic if you need it.
Then we find out why
Pain is a symptom. A cracked cusp, a failing old filling, an infection at the root and gum disease all hurt in similar ways and need completely different treatment.

We explain what the tooth needs, what it costs, and what happens if you wait. Nothing gets committed to without your say-so.

Because we mill permanent CEREC crowns in the office, a cracked tooth that needs a crown can often be finished the same day instead of sending you home in a temporary.

Can I see an emergency dentist in North Austin today?
In most cases, yes. Our North Austin office on Research Blvd. holds emergency time open every day we’re open — Monday through Thursday from 7:00am and Friday from 8:00am. Call (512) 795-9960 and the front desk will triage what’s happening and find you the earliest appointment we have.
Is the North Austin office open on Friday?
Yes. North Austin is open Friday 8:00am–5:00pm. Our Georgetown office is closed Friday, so if you have a dental emergency on a Friday, North Austin is the office to call.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or persistent toothache, a knocked-out or loosened tooth, a cracked or broken tooth, a lost crown or filling, swelling in the gum or face, an abscess, bleeding that won’t stop, or a broken denture or appliance. Facial swelling that affects breathing or swallowing is a medical emergency — go to the ER.
What should I do with a knocked-out tooth before I get there?
The first hour matters most. Pick the tooth up by the crown, never the roots. Rinse it gently without scrubbing. If you can, put it back in the socket and bite softly on gauze; if not, store it in milk or your own saliva. Then call us on the way.
Will you see me if I’ve never been a patient here?
Yes. You don’t need to be an existing patient to be seen for an emergency. We’ll take care of the urgent problem first and talk about anything else afterward.
How much does emergency dental treatment cost?
It depends on what’s wrong, and we’ll tell you the cost before we start. We file insurance for you, and we offer CareCredit, Cherry and Prosper financing plus an in-house plan for patients without insurance.
