Crowns, Reinvented

One visit instead of three weeks

Same-day crowns at Hammons Family Dental use CEREC® CAD/CAM technology to design, mill, and permanently place a custom ceramic crown in a single visit — digital scanning instead of messy impressions, on-site milling in under an hour, and no temporary crown to wear in North Austin or Georgetown, TX.

Dental crowns — sometimes called “caps” — restore a tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance: protecting a tooth weakened by decay or fracture, restoring one after a root canal, supporting a large filling, or improving a misshapen or severely discolored tooth.

Traditionally that took at least two visits weeks apart, with an uncomfortable temporary crown in between that was prone to dislodging. CEREC condenses the whole process into a single appointment: after preparing the tooth, an intraoral scanner captures a precise 3D model, the crown is designed on screen — bite alignment, shape, and aesthetics all considered — and an on-site milling unit carves it from a solid block of high-quality ceramic, usually in under an hour. Then it’s fitted, adjusted, bonded, and polished. You can even watch the milling if you’re curious.

Most patients needing restorative treatment are candidates; complex cases involving gum surgery or multiple teeth may still benefit from traditional techniques — your consultation sorts that out honestly.

Why Patients Love It

Five benefits you feel immediately

One Appointment

Less time off work or school, and no waiting weeks for a permanent restoration — the entire process often takes only a few hours.

No Temporary Crown

Skipping the temporary simplifies everything and eliminates the discomfort and dislodging risk that comes with it.

Precision Fit

Digital scanning and manufacturing produce a crown that fits more accurately than those made from traditional molds.

Natural & Durable

Advanced tooth-colored ceramics are chosen for both seamless appearance and long-term strength.

Your Visit

What happens on crown day

Exam & preparation

Digital X-rays confirm the need for a crown and rule out complications; then the damaged or decayed portion is removed and the tooth reshaped to accommodate the crown.

Scan, design, mill

The intraoral scanner captures detailed 3D images — no messy impression material — which flow straight into design software, then to the on-site mill while you relax.

Placement & polish

The crown is tried in, adjusted for a comfortable bite, permanently cemented, and polished. You leave with a fully functional tooth the same day.

“Modern lifestyles demand efficiency without compromising quality. One visit, one crown — and back to what matters most.”

Common Questions

Questions patients ask about same-day crowns

How long does a same-day crown appointment take?

Often only a few hours start to finish: exam, tooth preparation, digital scan, on-screen design, in-office milling (usually under an hour), then fitting, bonding, and polish — all in one visit.

Are same-day crowns as good as lab-made crowns?

The advanced ceramics used are known for strength, longevity, and natural appearance, and digital scanning produces a more accurate fit than traditional molds. For most restorative cases, CEREC matches or beats the traditional route — without the second visit.

When is a crown needed instead of a filling?

When a tooth is weakened by significant decay or fracture, after a root canal, when a large filling needs support, or when a tooth is badly misshapen or discolored. Mild-to-moderate decay usually just needs a tooth-colored filling.

Is everyone a candidate for a same-day crown?

Most patients are. Certain complex cases — those requiring gum surgery or involving multiple teeth — may benefit from traditional techniques or additional procedures. Your consultation determines the best path honestly.

How do I care for my new crown?

Brush twice daily, floss, avoid biting hard objects like ice or popcorn kernels, and keep regular checkups so the crown and your overall oral health are monitored. With proper care it can last many years.
